Our Next Big Adventure

We always wanted to move somewhere completely random right after we got married to get away and spend time getting to know each other.  We had heard that it is extremely healthy for a marriage, and figured we should do it while we are young, before we have responsibilities to stop us.

Troy ran into an old friend at BYU-Idaho while recruiting for the firm he currently works at.  His friend was also recruiting for his own firm, and Troy and his friend talked a lot about their different firms.  Troy talked to Beth about it, and she was gung-ho about at least interviewing with the firm.  They flew us out, wined and dined us, and we absolutely LOVED it.

So, if you haven't heard, Troy received an offer on a job in Anchorage, Alaska beginning in January.  So on December 29th, we're moving to Anchorage Alaska for him to take an accounting job at Mikunda, Cottrell & Company.  We are ecstatic about our big move and can't wait to get there!
Anchorage is perfect for us, because Beth gets her ocean and trees, and Troy gets his snow and mountains!  We can't wait to get there are start working and living.  We couldn't be more excited!

Troy and I registered for our wedding this past weekend.  It was fun! We are registered at the following places:

Bed Bath & Beyond - Gift Registry
Look for our information here under Elizabeth Bennett & Troy Griffith, wedding place Arizona

Target - Club Wedd Registry
Look for our information under Beth Bennett & Troy Griffith, wedding place in Arizona.

Sorry it is different at both places!  Troy's name is the same in both so it may be easier to search that way.  We will post an address later of where to send gifts if you are unable to come to the engagement party, wedding or reception.

Our Story: The engagement - Her Side

Troy and I had been talking for marriage for a little while, and a couple of weeks before my birthday, we started ring shopping.  He told me that he would propose within 6 weeks after my birthday.  This meant he had until September 28th.  In my typical, patient manner, I asked him every day to marry me.  It seemed like six weeks was SO LONG, and would never come.  I was positive that he was going to make me wait until 11:59 pm on the 28th to do it.

Troy had broken his phone and needed a new one, and when he got it, I stole it and put on his calendar "Propose to Beth" on September 10th.  I forgot completely about this.

During the week preceding September 10th, he told me that his Grandparents were going to take us to dinner at Henry's Fork Lodge.  I believed it was true, and so on we headed up to Island Park.  The week before, his Dad had been in Island Park and their family went to Yellowstone.   You're able to use the pass again within a week, and so we went to stop by their cabin to pick up the pass that he left behind.  Troy ran in to go grab it while I waited in the car.  He came out a couple minutes later and told me that he couldn't find it, and that he needed my help and ran back in.

I went in after him, and as I opened the door, there was a candlelit path, with all the lights off.  It was so surreal, and I knew what it meant.  All I could keep saying was, "Are you serious!?" over and over.  Finally I got to the end of the path, where he was on one knee, with the ring.  It said "Marry Me" on the table in candles, and my favorite song, "You Have That Effect On Me" by Brad Paisley was playing.  He asked, "Will you marry me?"  Of course, I said yes.

It's been so fun ever since!  I just love that boy!

Our Story: How we met

Troy and I had been in the same ward for six months, but had somehow never crossed paths.  On my very last Sunday in his ward, Troy saw me and thought, "I should go talk to her", which we all know means he really thought, "She's hot!"

I was waiting for the Sunday School class before us to get out, and was standing next to the kitchen door.  I noticed him starting to walk my way, and (while checking him out) figured he was just making customary eye contact while walking by.  Surprisingly, he didn't.  He stopped and said, "I don't think they're having class in there today."  I thought he meant in the classroom, not picking up on his jest about not having class in the kitchen.  I simply responded, "Huh?"  He tried to explain the joke, but we both felt dumb and he walked away.

During that week, I switched wards, and barely thought twice about the handsome stranger with the joke that I didn't get.  The following week I went to Family Home Evening in my new ward.  His roommate, Steve Reynolds, attends that same ward (although, he's not suppose to - but I sure am glad he does!) and Troy came with him.  Troy had casually dated the roommate of a dear friend of mine, Megan Bevans, and so he used the acquaintance to his advantage.  Steve coordinated a social dinner at Applebees after FHE and talked Megan into coming, so I went as well.  Best dinner choice of my life!

At Applebees, Troy and I started to talk while we we heading in and while waiting for a table.  We hit it off, and sat next to each other at dinner, and things continued to go extremely well.  Troy asked why I lived in Rexburg if I wasn't going to school, and I told him about a blessing I had received, where I was told that my eternal salvation was dependent upon moving to Rexburg.  Steve, in typical Steve manner, took this as an alley-way to try to put it in my head that I moved here for Troy.  He kept saying, "Beth, I'm telling you.  You moved here for Troy."  Little did we know, he was right.  :)

During dinner,  Megan and Steve were texting, presumably about "They would be so good together!"  Suzi and Megan and I were texting, and Troy said he felt pretty left out, and asked if he could have my number so that he could be cool and text someone, too.  I gave it to him.  The dinner ended, we went our separate ways, but I couldn't help but remember how fun he was.

The next day while I was at work, he was on my mind quite a bit.  I couldn't believe I hadn't heard from him (It had been over 12 hours, after all!) and finally texted him.  He ended up asking me to dinner.  I was dating about four guys at this point, and told him I only had a couple of hours on Saturday.

Saturday, he picked me up, and told me that he didn't want to sound cheap, so we could go to dinner anywhere I wanted, but he had a stack of gift cards that we could use if I wanted to go any of those places.  We ended up going to a place called The Cellar, which turned out to be extremely classy.  It was the best first date that I've ever had.

Sure enough, after this point, the four other guys were weeded out, and Troy came out victorious, and we've been together ever since.  It's been better than anything I could have dreamed of. :)

Soon to be Griffith Family

Although we are not the Griffiths yet, this blog will carry over after we are married to be our family blog.  I will post things about wedding plans, registry, pictures and the like, in the meantime.  Please feel free to comment or ask questions on anything that is posted.  When the wedding is done, please keep following us, because it will then become the blog of what we do.   We will update everyone about our honeymoon, what we are doing with our lives and life-altering events, down the road.

Thanks for following our blog!
